Silvercity Schoonhoven.

A few days ago we visited a lovely little city not far from us called Schoonhoven.
Schoonhoven is renowned for its silver, hence it is nicknamed “Zilverstad” (Silvercity), home of the Dutch Silver museum and the International silver school
We didn’t have enough time
that day so we will be going back soon and visit the silver and clock museum.
Here just a collection of what we saw during our short walk.

This is the medieval townhall with its carillon of 50 bells.

The 17th century ferry gate  . The wooden doors are closed when it is high tide.
On my next photo there is a memorial
of the 1953 waterflood storm.. It shows how high the water came here in Schoonhoven. during the biggest nature disaster of all time her in Holland.

Hello dear Riet
All the places you show us in the Netherlands are interesting! You are so lucky living in Europe with such beautiful architecture!

The silver vaults must be interesting to visit too.
Schoonhoven looks well cared for and clean - I love the waterways and the geraniums flowering their hearts out!

Have a happy and fun week Riet
greetings from New Zealand.

Hello Riet
Plenty to see on your walk, did you hear the bells ring from the town hall? I noticed vibrantly coloured doors like I saw in Ireland and just love them!
Thank you for sharing and linking to Mosaic Monday.

Lovely collection of photos Riet. I still remember when, as a child, my father took me into the silver vaults in London. I think my eyes were the size of platters. I love silver. Did you buy any in your town?

Schoonhoven looks very pretty, Riet! Floods can be terrible--that disaster happened the year I was born!

Hello Riet,

I love the buckets of blooms. There's a town in PA like that. Isn’t it fun finding blue?

I'm looking forward to reading your comment on my blue striped kayak post. Please come back.

Happy Blue Monday!

Wat is het toch een PRACHTIG
stadje Schoonhoven, lieve Rietje.
Mooie panden en veel beelden.
Plus veel moois aan zilverwerk te
bekijken.

Vreselijk die watersnoodramp in
1953, zelf was ik toen ruim
5 jaar oud, maar ondanks dat kan ik het me nog heel goed herinneren.
Letterlijk een RAMP van grote
omvang, vreselijk!!!

Veel liefs,
Josephine

Looks like a great walking city -- and since we love water and boats we would feel at home! Did you get to hear the carrillon bells? Thanks for sharing (I feel as if I'd walked along with you -- it's a great series of photos.)

It's a beautiful town Riet! But then, I think all of your country is beautiful. I love the buildings you shared here of Silvercity. It has such a wonderful charm to it.
I don't think I tell you enough how much I enjoy the collages of these wonderful places you share. I can't travel because of Landon, and so you take me to places I will never go, and it is lovely to see how much beauty there is in other countries.
sending love...
