Probably most of you have heard about the festivities in our country last Tuesday. We have a new King and Queen. The abdication of Queen Beatrix was at 10 in the morning and the inauguration of King Willem Alexander was at 2 in the afternoon. We saw it all on TV .
Let me show you some pictures I took while watching TV.
A small impression of a beautiful day.
Top photo on the left, Now Princess Beatrix told the people they have a new King,
Bottom photo on the left , the royal palace on the Dam square in Amsterdam with in front of it the crowds waiting for the balcony scene of the new royal family. And here they are on the bottom right photo and the middle photo on the top. King Willem Alexander, Queen Maxima and their three lovely daughters.
Top right Willem Alexander and Maxima walking to the New Church for the inauguration, but first the little princesses and their grandmother princess Beatrix and princess Mabel went there, as you can see on the middle bottom photo.
Here photo’s of the King and his mother princess Beatrix , a photo of our future queen princess Amalia, an impression of the church and the three princesses now wearing lovely Royal
blue dresses.

narigheid. Een ongelooflijke
mensenmassa die vol van vreugde
op het plein aanwezig waren.
Hartverwarmend allemaal en menig
traantje is gevallen.
Wij hebben ook alles op de
TV gevolgd, en de tijd ertussen
zijn we de Sneek ingegaan,
erg druk en veel gezelligheid.
Lekker iets gebruikt op een zonnig
terras en zo rond twee uur weer
achter de buis.
Een dag om nooit te vergeten.
Veel liefs,
Josephine
It must have been a wonderful day! Although it was shown on our television too, I was at work and so it has been lovely to see pictures of the event here.

All such great pictures and what a lovely time and moment to share in history. Just a beautiful process!
It was just fantastic, you should be proud of your country.
Greetings,
Filip
Thanks for sharing this Riet. What a beautiful ceremony and such lovely royalty.
hugs
Sissie
Beautiful photos Riet. We saw some short clips on the news here. Our province has a lot of Dutch living here since World War 2 and they gathered together for a celebration and watched the proceedings on TV. I think it's wonderful the Queen felt she could 'retire' and allow her son the privilege of being king.
Fijn weekend, lieve groet
Thank you Riet for sharing photos of the royal celebration.
Handsome and Beauiful royal family indeed.
Love blogging for just this reason--these insider stories from around the world. It looks like you have a promising, youthful new royal family, Reit. I hope they serve your country well.
Loved those photos inside the cathedral especially. Wonderful architecture.
congratulations to the new king and queen and they look like a very sweet family!
Liefs Riet.
Oh this was wonderful to see in your TV photos, Riet! Congratulations to the Netherlands on your new King and Queen! They look like a very nice couple. I like the name Maxima--it is so regal!
Have a lovely weekend!

Oh, thank you for sharing these photos! We didn't get to see it over here. I've always thought Queen Beatrix is such a lovely, gentile woman. It looks like her son and his family will represent The Netherlands very well. I've never seen Dam Square that full - wow!! Congratulations to the new monarchs and to everyone in your beautiful country. You know how much I love it there!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Robin

Very gracious of Queen Beatrix to abdicate in favour of her son Willem - I hope he will make a good King of the house of Orange.

Exquisite! Fun! We Americans love to enjoy the royalty in other countries...it is fascinating and so enjoyable! :) Well I'd say THIS American does, anyway :)
Hello Riet
This was talked about even in Canada. Such a strong family resemblance of Queen Beatrix and her son. What does her title become now?
Exciting to see all the photos, thanks for sharing.
Judith
This was on the news here in Canada, as others have mentioned. How graciously Princess Beatrix gave over the throne. You have a beautiful royal family.
Beautiful photos, Riet! What a joyous occasion! I love all the blue outfits....Christine
We saw it on TV here as well, Riet. What a beautiful day it must have been. Here in Canada we feel a special connection with the now- Princess Beatrix who spent some of her childhood in Ottawa. What a beautiful royal family you have in the Netherlands.
What a significant day! I love the last pic of the church -regal and royal like it is supposed to be!
royalty...and royal blues!! Great images and congrats on the coronation!
Royals know how to "use the blues." I like their choices; thanks for sharing.
Happy Blue Monday, Riet.
What an interesting event to watch. They have a beautiful family. Happy Blue Monday. I played too. Mine are here and here.

Great series!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
They are a lovely looking family. I hope that the new King and Queen do as well as the previous. Valerie
What an historic and grand occasion.
What an impressive and historic moment!
Hi Riet! Ik zie dat wij hetzelfde onderwerp hebben! Logisch toch !
How exciting! As we have no monarchy I enjoy our friends'. Congratulations! (and what a gorgeous shade of blue).
Peace,
Linda at The French Hens Nest
och wat was het mooi he riet,
ik heb er zo van genoten
I think it's wonderful of your Queen (now Princess) to do that. Seems like a fairy tale to us over here, where every little girl wants to be a princess. Your Royal Family is certainly good looking enough to qualify for any such story.
